blatant contrast.

i am consistently
surprised to look
in the mirror,
see photos,
of [myself],
that are immediately
contradictory
and rapidly
confusing.

i guess that
must be me.
i second guess
mirrors
and allege
image alteration.
really?
really?
that’s [me]?

it’s not so
much that i
am either
disappointed
or elated,
just that
the eyes staring
back?
they’re not [mine].

that’s what
people close
to me are
familiar with?
this is the [me]
they know?
such blatant contrast
becomes both disturbing
and liberating.
